Recently I took what appeared to be a big risk, something way out of my normal comfort zone.

After much self talk, reviewing, preparation and a little moan.

Everything went off like a well laid out plan,

And in the end, I had one of the most amazing experiences known to this man.

What was this event or task that has got me so over the moon?

I will tell you, however, not too soon.

First some background on me, myself and I,

Mid 50’s, married, two adult children (note, both still @ home), decent job, good life, family, friends – o my!

You see dear reader, earlier this summer (June 28 to be exact), I embarked on a journey of self exploration,

Together with my son and newly acquired truck tent, accessories and more stuff that was soon to resemble an explosion.

We started camping using a Rooftop Tent or “RTT”,

The things that you can see when off the ground and floating free.

With Covid in full swing, I was in desperate need of something new,

A change from the home office, move to the woods and improve the view.

Off we went to explore all Ontario has to offer. Along the way this also became known as working from forest or WFF,

Provincial parks, Emily, Selkirk, Turkey Point as well as private parks such as HHWT & HWF!

A large battery charging unit with solar panel along + mobile internet service line,

Allows for seamless working remotely with performance continuing to shine.

20 days and nights WFF to date,

More to come I hope, however, Mother Nature will determine that fate.

And now back to our story and not a moment too soon,

Remember, the background details are crucial and has set the tune.

Monday Sept 7 2020 – the day arrives!

I’m so happy to be alive.

Final packing and checking and checking and more,

One last check to make sure nothing a left on the floor.

Set the GPS to my destination – Hwy 118 & Black River Rd about 2 hours northeast of my house,

CBC, coffee and the free road ahead,

Looking forward to my home for the night and view from bed.

Finally, after a quick stop for gas and a pee, I arrive at the entrance to Cinder lake access road!

Queue the music, seriously must you be told?

3 km of hair raising, truck swaying, wrong turns and then behold,

A site so beautiful the views would certainly never grow old.

HHWT Cinder Lake access point camp site 68.

A perfect spot for the night and everything was looking great.

Settled in for the night, solo and bit anxious just the same

Let’s hope that any noises are just a game.

I woke to the morning sky, having had some great kip,

The sky was getting cloudy and I needed to hurry, pack and continue my trip.

While not a huge feat, for me it was my Nobel prize,

Off roading, solo camping in beautiful Haliburton was truly my prize.

Enjoy all.
